Grace Communion International (GCI) Mindanao emerging leaders had their Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) Planning and Staff Training at Sacred Heart Retreat House, Maramag, Bukidnon last December 27 to 29 the previous year. The activity was facilitated by Sarah Lynn Bahinting and Pastor Tim Andrew Rota, prominent leaders from Cebu City. It was participated by 24 young leaders from all over Mindanao churches, namely; Maramag, Quezon, Kiara, Iligan City, Butuan City, Jasaan, Ipil, Cagayan de Oro City, Davao City, and Tagum City.
The first day of the activity was spent highlighting the soul of leadership. According to Pastor Tim Andrew Rota, “The soul of leadership is the soul of a leader”. The participants were given the moment to reflect and to refresh their hearts and minds to what is leadership which brought more fire to the zeal of being a leader.
On the second day of the activity, more topics were introduced by the facilitators such as “The Leadership of Jesus”, “Leadership Styles”, and “Counseling”. In the late afternoon, it was spent with the strategic direction inputs for the upcoming SEP Camp. It started by voting for who will be the next Camp Director/Directress for the upcoming camp. It was followed by planning the necessary information about the camp such as the theme, venue, and date. It was also decided by the majority that the theme “Held and Holding On” which was the alleged theme for SEP Mindanao 2017 will be used, in which the theme relates to facilitate a holistic venue where young people get to know their identity and worth in Jesus Christ.
On the last day, they continued their workshops and topics that dug deeper into the heart of being a leader not only for the camp, but also for their respective churches. A representative for each church area was asked to identify the problems, concerns, and what activities do they do in their own churches that sustains the youth ministry.
The staff training and planning concluded with an evaluation for the activity and a prayer.
The Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) is a denominational program that aims to provide a safe environment conducive for young people to build a lasting relationship with Jesus. The general vision of SEP camps is to influence young people for a transformed life. Since SEP Mindanao 2017 was cancelled due to the security situation in the island. Nevertheless, it is with high hopes and dreams burning brighter than ever that the SEP fever for the year 2018 adventure continues. The road may be uncertain but as servants and leaders together, they eventually find themselves to be the LIGHT that continues to touch lives and empower people.
